Slots are cut every 1/4 inch with a fine blade on a standard table saw. A simple jig was designed to hold the round PVC on one of 4 90 degree sides to make the pattern shown. Length of slots is simply controlled by blade height. Similar slotted PVC is used to keep fish from entering the filter form the sump basins.
